The Punjab government has granted Rs 5.5 crore to the Municipal Corporation for various development works, proposals for which were sent in 2023.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar, speaking to the media in the presence of Mayor Vimal Thatai and others, said that the Punjab government has issued grants of Rs 30 to 35 crore to small corporations in Hoshiarpur and Batala, which is nearly seven times more than Abohar.
He said that since coming to power, the Aam Aadmi Party has discriminated against the residents of Abohar, yet, the “halqa incharge” makes mockery of himself in boasting over the release of Rs 5.5 crore grant.
Jakhar said that the Punjab government has neither appointed a permanent commissioner in Abohar for three years nor initiated any development work. This clearly shows that the government is discriminating against 1,75 lakh residents of Abohar out of vengeance because AAP candidates lost badly in the last Vidhan Sabha and Municipal Corporation election. Vendetta in development is not good for democracy, he added.
