CBI COURT SENTENCES HYDERABAD POSTAL ASSISTANTS TO TWO YEARS RI WITH A FINE OF RS. 65K EACH

The CBI Court Hyderabad, on 01.12.2025, has convicted and sentenced Adapa Srinivas, the then Postal Assistant (Treasurer) and U. Rajyalakshmi, the then Postal Assistant, of Humayun Nagar Sub-Post Office, Hyderabad, Telangana, to undergo two Years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs.65,000 each for misappropriating Rs. 27.27 Lakh during Demonetisation period.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 31.08.2017 on the basis of a written complaint of Senior Supdt. of Post Offices, Hyderabad City Division, Hyderabad, Telangana. It was alleged that A. Srinivas, Treasurer and U. Rajya Lakshmi, Postal Assistant entered into a criminal conspiracy between 10.11.2016 and 24.11.2016 i.e. at the time of demonetization of old currency notes and in pursuance of the same, they fraudulently exchanged Withdrawn Old Series (WOS) of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 denomination currency notes with new currency notes worth Rs. 27,27,397 without receiving required Annexure-II forms and falsified the records to cover up the misappropriation.

On completion of the investigation, CBI filed the charge sheet on 25.10.2019. The Hon’ Court, after trial, convicted and sentenced the accused persons accordingly
