Shavan Singh of Taran Wali village in Mamdot block has brought laurels to the border district after winning the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puruskar. The 10-year-old received the award from President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and BJP state president Sunil Jakhar were among those who congratulated him.
Deputy Commissioner Deep Shikha Sharma said Shavan’s achievement is a matter of pride for Ferozepur, Punjab, and the nation. She recalled that during Operation Sindoor, Shavan voluntarily served tea, water, milk, lassi and food to Army jawans day and night.
Earlier, the Indian Army’s Golden Arrow Division had honoured Shavan with the title of “Youngest Civil Warrior” for his selfless service. He also interacted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the event.
Shavan’s father, Sona Singh, said he became emotional while watching his son receive the award from the President. His mother, Santosh Ranj, said the family and villagers watched the moment on television with pride, calling it an unforgettable experience.
