Punjab Govt. reportedly suspended Amritsar Vigilance SSP Lakhbir Singh following serious allegations linked to a multi-crore tender scam. The action was taken after complaints from a construction company and a senior IAS officer raised questions over the manner in which an investigation was being conducted.

The case is related to a ₹55-crore development tender in Amritsar’s posh Ranjit Avenue area. Allegations suggest that despite the massive allocation, no development work was carried out, while crores of rupees were allegedly misappropriated and distributed among several individuals.

The matter reached the govt after concerns were raised over irregularities and alleged lapses in the probe. Sources indicate that the tender was meant for sewerage and street lighting projects. Allegations of awarding contracts to favoured parties have surfaced, and the role of a social activist is also said to be under scrutiny. It is learnt that a complaint regarding the matter was also sent to the DGP by a social organisation. A case has reportedly been registered against a social activist in connection with the scam.

Lakhbir Singh was appointed as SSP Vigilance in April 2025. Notably, he had led the team that arrested senior Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia on June 25, 2025. His suspension within just nine months of appointment has sparked intense discussion in administrative and political circles. However, speaking to the media, SSP Lakhbir Singh said that he has not received any official suspension order from the government.
