MOBILE PHONES USED IN THE COMMISSION OF THE CRIME RECOVERED FROM HIS POSSESSION.

The staff of PS Cyber/NWD has arrested one cyber fraudster, namely Dashmeet Singh S/o Kanwarjeet Singh R/o Rajpura, Punjab Age-31 years. The accused induced and deceived innocent women under the pretext of matrimonial alliance. He is the prime accused who cheated the present complainant of an amount of Rs. 86,500/-. After defrauding her, the accused deliberately ignored her calls. The mobile phone used in the commission of the crime has also been recovered.
An online complaint of cyber fraud was received at PS Cyber/NW from a lady complainant R/o Shalimar Bagh, Delhi. She reported that she had been cheated of Rs. 86,500/- by cyber criminals who lured her with promises of matrimonial alliance. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 57/25, dated 14.10.2025, under Section 318(4) BNS, PS Cyber/NW, was registered at PS Cyber NWD, and investigation was taken up.
Seeing the different modus operandi used by the cyber criminals, a dedicated team comprising SI RN Ashang, HC Amit, HC Sohan and HC Sandeep was constituted to crack the case under the leadership of Insp. Dinesh Dahiya, SHO/Cyber NW, and close supervision of Sh. Rajeev Kumar, ACP/Cyber NW.
Mr. Bhisham Singh, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police, North-West District, said, during the course of investigation, details of the accused were obtained from Shaadi.com and Instagram. A detailed analysis of the money trail revealed that the accused had used a bank account to receive the cheated funds, which were subsequently transferred through UPI transactions. Technical examination of the digital footprints, along with location analysis of the mobile number registered with the said account, was conducted.

Further scrutiny of the transaction patterns and technical surveillance on the suspected individuals aided the investigation and ultimately led to the identification of the accused’s operational base in Rajpura, Patiala, Punjab. With the support of both manual and technical inputs, the accused was identified as Dashmeet Singh. Intensive groundwork, coupled with sustained technical surveillance, was mounted to trace his hideouts.
Eventually, the sincere efforts of the team yielded results, and 08.01.2026, the accused, namely Dashmeet Singh S/o Kanwarjeet Singh R/o Rajpura, Punjab Age-31 years was arrested, in the present case.
INTERROGATION AND MODUS OPERANDI: During the investigation, the accused disclosed that he was in need of money as his parents were not in good financial condition and due to his extravagant lifestyle. To achieve this, he created profiles on Shaadi.com and Instagram to lure innocent women under the pretext of matrimonial alliance. Analysis of the money trail revealed that the cheated amount was spent on purchasing expensive liquor and hosting parties. In order to evade detection, the accused frequently changed his location. Initially, he resided in Janakpuri, Delhi, and later shifted to Rajpura, Punjab. Further investigation is underway to ascertain his possible involvement in other similar cases and complaints.
