Accused Vimal Bhat @ Sonu arrested from Patparganj Industrial Area, East Delhi, Accused impersonated himself as an IPS Officer posted in Intelligence Bureau to deceive public. Declared Proclaimed Offender by the hon’ble Court during trial in FIR No. 283/2017, PS Dwarka South.

In a successful operation, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has apprehended a Proclaimed Offender, namely Vimal Bhat @ Sonu, S/o Omkar Nath Bhat, R/o Raj Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad (U.P.).
On 29.01.2026, acting on information, a Crime Branch team comprising SI Mohit Asiwal, SI Dinesh Kumar, ASI Umesh Kumar, HC Harinder, and HC Pankaj departed from the Crime Branch office in search of the wanted criminal.
The team reached Patparganj Industrial Area, East Delhi, where a secret informer provided specific input that Vimal Bhat @ Sonu, a proclaimed offender in FIR No. 283/2017, PS Dwarka South, would arrive near Patparganj Industrial Area.
The team tactically deployed at the identified location and at about 03:25 PM, the informer pointed out a person arriving from the industrial area side, identifying him as Vimal Bhat @ Sonu, who had been absconding after being declared a proclaimed offender by the hon’ble Court. The accused was apprehended by the team.
IMPERSONATION AS IB OFFICER & RECOVERIES: During investigation of FIR No. 283/2017, it was revealed that the accused had been impersonating himself as an officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He used a fake IB identity card, falsely projected himself as an IPS/IB officer and moved around in a vehicle displaying “POLICE” stickers, a siren, and loud hailer, thereby creating fear and misleading the public.
Mr. Vikram Singh, IPS, DCP, Crime Branch, said, from his possession and search of vehicle, police had earlier recovered a fake Intelligence Bureau identity card, a walkie-talkie, police-style accessories, siren, loud hailer and also one identity card issued from MHA, and documents bearing false government credentials, which formed the basis of offences under Sections 419/467/468/471 IPC.
On verification, it was confirmed that he had been declared a Proclaimed Offender w.e.f. 04.08.2025 in FIR No. 283/2017, PS Dwarka South.
Further verification revealed his involvement in additional cases: • Case under Section 138 NI Act, PS Udhampur • FIR No. 201/2020, PS Nawabad, U/s 279/304 IPC • FIR No. 29/2018, PS Naraina, U/s 420/419/376(2)(N)/493/377 IPC.
He was thereafter formally arrested u/s 35(1)(d) BNSS.
