The Ferozepur Police have arrested two drug smugglers in two separate operations and recovered a total of 7.243 kg heroin from their possession.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said that in the first case, a police team laid a trap on the road from Gatti Rajo Ke village towards Chandiwala along the Indo-Pakistan border. During the operation, Manjeet Singh (45), a resident of Chhine Wale Jhugge, was nabbed and 5.507 kg heroin was recovered from him. "The accused was in contact with Pakistani smugglers and had recently received the consignment from across the border", said SSP adding that the accused had been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Sadar police station.
In another case, the police arrested one Harpreet Singh alias Guggu alias Happy, a resident of Udaykaran village in Muktsar Sahib, near Gokhil Wala village while he was travelling in a Swift car. During checking, the police recovered 1.736 kg heroin and two .30 bore pistols from his possession. He has been booked under the NDPS Act and Arms Act at Sadar police station.
The SSP said that further investigations are underway in both cases.
