Police achieved a major success under the supervision of Smt. Kanwardeep Kaur (IPS) W/SSP, UT, Chandigarh, Sh Dhiraj Kumar, SDPO South West and Inspector Jai Parkash Singh SHO/PS 36 by arresting by arresting the murder accused of case FIR No.0027 Dated 23.02.2026 U/S 103(1) of BNS 2023 PS-36 Chandigarh. 

The accused was apprehended within a short span of a few hours after the commission of the crime on 23.02.2026..

The above said case has been registered on the complaint of Sh. Mahesh Kumar S/o Munna Lal R/o Jhugi Near House No. 2161, Sector 35/C, Chandigarh, aged 43 years. The complainant stated that he is residing at the above mentioned address and is working as a clothes ironing vendor.

He has four children and his elder daughter namely Suhani, aged about 22 years, studied up to B.A. He further stated that his daughter had informed him that she was having friendship with one Vinay Kumar, resident of Burail, Chandigarh, for the last two years, who had been insisting upon her for marriage.

However, due to caste differences, the complainant and his family refused the proposal.

Thereafter, Vinay Kumar allegedly started harassing his daughter on one pretext or the other. Subsequently, as per the wish of his daughter, her engagement was solemnized with another boy belonging to their caste. The complainant further stated that on 22.02.2026 at about 7:00 PM, his daughter Suhani left the house on her Activa bearing No. CH01-CP-3605 after informing the family that she was going to the market to purchase chocolates for the children. However, when she did not return for a long time, his wife Anita made repeated calls on her mobile number 7888552703, but she did not pick up the phone.

He further stated that when his wife called Suhani for the fourth time, she picked up the phone and informed that she was present at Hibiscus Park, Sector 36, Chandigarh, where Vinay had stabbed her with a knife.

Upon receiving this information, the complainant along with his family members immediately rushed towards the said park and started searching for their daughter. During the search, one pedestrian informed them that a girl was lying at the backside of the park in bloody condition.

On reaching the indicated spot, they found their daughter Suhani lying in a pool of blood, with blood oozing from her neck. Thereafter, someone informed the Police Control Room. The injured was immediately shifted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, where the attending doctor declared her “brought dead.” The complainant alleged that Vinay Kumar had intentionally stabbed and murdered his daughter due to the dispute regarding marriage and requested that strict legal action be taken against him as per law.

Through sustained efforts, technical surveillance, and local intelligence, the accused namely Vinay Kumar Mandal S/o Ram Kumar Mandal age 28 Years R/o H No. 1642 Village- Burail Chandigarh has been arrested today i.e 23.02.2026 from Sector 43 Chandigarh within 24 hours.

During the course of investigation, the accused has thoroughly interrogated and suffered a disclosure statement regarding the weapon used in the crime, i.e. a knife. Pursuant to his disclosure, the murder weapon (knife) has recovered from the bushes of Habicious Garden and taken into police possession as per legal procedure. Further, the blood-stained clothes worn by the accused at the time of the commission of the offence were also recovered and taken into possession. Further investigation in the case is in progress.
