Senior IAS officer Varsha Sinha, Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, today paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the historic Hussainiwala Memorial during her visit to Ferozepur on Wednesday, calling it a deeply inspiring experience and urging people to remember the sacrifices made for the nation’s freedom.
Upon her arrival in Ferozepur, she was accorded a warm welcome by District Education Officer Munila Arora. Accompanying her during the visit were Naib Tehsildar-cum-Duty Magistrate Ramesh Dhingra, National Awardee Dr Satinder Singh, who is serving as Deputy DEO -cum-Liaison Officer, and DSP Headquarters Bitan Kumar, among other officials.
During the visit, Dr Satinder Singh briefed the dignitary about the historical significance of the Hussainiwala Memorial, highlighting its deep connection with India’s freedom struggle. He informed that it was at this sacred site that the last rites of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were performed on March 23, 1931, making it a symbol of patriotism and supreme sacrifice. He added that thousands of visitors from across the country visit the memorial every year to pay homage to the martyrs.
He further elaborated that the Hussainiwala border, located along the Indo-Pak international boundary, holds immense historical and strategic importance, with the daily retreat ceremony serving as a powerful display of patriotic fervour.
Addressing the gathering, Varsha Sinha said that visiting Hussainiwala and paying respects to the martyrs, along with witnessing the retreat ceremony, was a truly motivating experience. She remarked that the martyrs are the nation’s invaluable legacy, whose sacrifices have ensured the freedom that citizens enjoy today. She emphasized that such historic places remind people, especially the youth, of their duty towards the nation and inspire them to contribute to its progress and unity.
The visit marked a proud moment for Ferozepur, reinforcing a sense of dedication and respect towards the nation among the younger generation. Officials including Umesh Kumar, Lovedeep Singh and Akash Kumar were also present on the occasion.
