WORK TO RENOVATE SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH CHOWK STARTED

The renovation work of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Chowk, established by the Labour Council about 53 years ago, was inaugurated today by the Municipal Corporation Mayor Vimal Thatai. Shaheed Bhagat Singh Samajik Manch has taken up the responsibility of renovation.

In today's program, Manch patron Raj Sadosh, R.P. Malhotra Chairperson, Bharat Hiteshi President, Naresh Gilhotra General Secretary, Praveen Chawla Project Incharge, Kulbhushan Hiteshi Assistant Secretary and Panchkula social activist Suraj Prakash Vij were present.

Hiteshi said that Bhagat Singh Chowk was established by the untiring efforts of the Labour Council team comprising Mathura Dass Hiteshi, Prithvi Raj Sharma, Purushottam Garg and Raj Sadosh. The memorial was unveiled on 23 March 1969 by then Lok Sabha member Prakashveer Shastri who arrived on the request of Mohinder Pratap Asija, a leading advocate.

The program started with Bhoomi Pujan in which Mayor Thatai, officials of the Manch, Jagat Verma, President of Bhagat Singh Chowk Market Association were present. Thatai formally started the construction work, he was honored by the Manch and Traders Association by presenting a shawl and mementos.

At a program organized at Arorvansh Dharamshala, Hiteshi said that while renovating the Chowk, a life-size statue of Shaheed-e-Azam would be installed.

Mayor Thatai said that the renovation of this Chowk would be a big boost to the project - Kadam - started for the all-round development of the city. MD Hiteshi ex-MC was associated with town development and his son Bharat has now done a commendable job in taking up the initiative of renovation of the memorial.

For raising the memorial, in 1969, Raj Sadosh, who along with PD Garg arranged the statue of Shaheed-e-Azam, revealed that at that time they had to wander in the narrow lanes of Jaipur for three days to get the statue prepared. Then the pictures of martyrs were not available in the shops anywhere, but with the passage of time such a change came that now the pictures of martyrs are visible in hundreds of houses and their statues were being installed in many cities. Punjabi Sabhyachar Manch president Gurcharan Singh Gill was honoured on the occasion for celebrating anniversaries of freedom fighters
