Expressing grave concern over the recovery of Punjab’s largest-ever consignment of heroin—valued at ₹400-495 crore—Shiromani Akali Dal Vice President and Khadoor Sahib Constituency In-charge, former MLA Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, has called for immediate accountability from both the Central and State governments. The massive seizure by Punjab Police in the border region of Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran, has sparked questions about the effectiveness of current anti-drug efforts.

In a strongly worded statement, Brahmpura emphasized that such a significant haul highlights the depth and seriousness of Punjab’s drug problem. He noted that the influx of such a large quantity of drugs from across the border in Pakistan, especially into sensitive areas within the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, exposes critical lapses in security. “How is it that a consignment of 85 kg of heroin, valued at nearly ₹495 crore, managed to cross into Punjab despite supposedly strict security arrangements?” Mr. Brahmpura questioned. “Is this simply negligence, or does it suggest something more serious, such as possible collusion?”

He went on to warn that if this consignment had slipped through and reached Punjab’s youth, the consequences would have been devastating. He stressed that this recovery might just be the tip of the iceberg, raising the unsettling prospect that many similar shipments may have already made their way in unchecked, inflicting untold harm on local communities.
