Delhi Traffic Police received an emergent request from Dr (Prof.) Aarti Vij, HOD, ORBO AIIMS wherein it was informed that a human heart under VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) is being flown from Vadodara and being brought to Delhi for heart transplant surgery by Indigo flight 6E2512 at 2:30 pm at Terminal-2 on 24 Dec and that fast moving green corridor is required from T-2 to AIIMS Hospital to avoid wastage of time.

The Traffic Police swung into action and immediately deputed officers and a green corridor for the emergency service, viz Ambulance carrying ‘Live heart’ was planned. The Traffic Inspectors piloted the Ambulance through out the route of 18.5 km starting from T-2 to AIIMS. It took 12 minutes for ‘Heart’ to reach destination, which would otherwise take anything between 35-40 minutes.

He wished the entire team of AIIMS doctors the very best for a successful transplant surgery and hoped that the patient will get a new lease of life. He also praised his team for rising to the occasion for a humane cause.
