Amarjit Singh Sandoa, former MLA from Ropar (2017–2022), has been suspended by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after participating in a peaceful protest demanding justice for a recent road accident victim. The suspension issued without prior notice or explanation has drawn sharp criticism from Sandoa who has termed the move unjust, arbitrary and politically motivated.

Addressing a press conference at Chandigarh Press Club on Sunday, Sandoa said he stood in solidarity with the family of a woman who died in a tragic road accident in which her daughter and two other women were also seriously injured. The victims are currently receiving treatment at PGI Chandigarh and GMCH Sector 32. Despite several days passing since the incident, the accused remained at large, prompting the victim's family to stage protests on July 8 in Nurpur Bedi and July 9 on the Sri Anandpur Sahib–Chandigarh road.

“I joined the protest solely to support a grieving family seeking justice. There was no political motive, rather only a moral duty,” said Sandoa.

He alleged that his suspension was the result of a "well-planned conspiracy" by internal elements to mislead the party high command and suppress his voice. “No show-cause notice was issued, no explanation sought as this action was taken without due process,” he added.

Expressing disappointment, Sandoa said, “People of Punjab had great hopes from AAP and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. I urged them to act swiftly in the interest of justice, but instead of support, I was silenced.”

Reiterating his unwavering commitment to public service, Sandoa said, “If standing with the truth comes at this price, I accept it. I will continue to raise my voice for the people.”

He also revealed that he has written to CM Mann, urging a fair inquiry into the matter and action against corrupt individuals tarnishing the party’s image. “I trust that the Cm will act decisively to uphold the values of justice and integrity that AAP stands for,” he concluded.

He said that he has only been suspended on behalf of the party, but he himself is sending his resignation from the party's primary membership to the party's Punjab president.
