In alignment with its commitment to experiential and empathy-driven education, Stage 7 & 8 students of Dass & Brown Experiential Learning School (DBELS) visited the Institute for the Blind in Chandigarh for an immersive session on Braille learning.
The educational visit aimed to provide students with authentic, real-world experiences by interacting closely with visually impaired students and gaining first-hand exposure to Braille, the tactile writing system used by people who are visually impaired. This initiative aligns with the school’s foundational pedagogical approach emphasizing compassion, social responsibility, and inclusivity.
"This visit is a critical component of our experiential learning curriculum," stated Anju Mehta, Principal. "Through such initiatives, students not only develop empathy but also practical insights that transcend conventional classroom education."
Students engaged in a simple, hands-on learning session on Braille, exploring the tactile script through guided interaction with their hosts. This hands-on experience enabled students to better understand the challenges faced by visually impaired students, fostering deep empathy and awareness.
“It was wonderful to see Braille in action and the students sang really well. We saw first hand how they use Braille books and Screen readers to learn. Overall, it was a wonderful experience”, said Mokshita, Stage 8 student.
