Protesting harassment by the Toll Plaza staff near Kala Tibba village on the Abohar-Dabwali Road, Azad Kisan Morcha (AKM) members and other aggrieved people of the villages, reached the plaza and held a protest.
They told the toll plaza incharge Amit Kumar and other staff that according to the National Highway Authority rules, toll fee is not applicable on the vehicles of the villages falling within 18 km radius of the toll plaza. They said that the staff was harassing people by forcing the vehicles of the exempted area to pay the fee. This was illegal and won’t be tolerated, SKM activists said.
AKM warned that if the “illegal” practice is not stopped, they would be forced to stage a dharna at the toll plaza and toll will be made free for all the vehicles at least for a week. The toll plaza operators will be responsible for any inconvenience caused by this dharna.
AKM said that the Incharge of the toll plaza, Amit Kumar, has assured that the staff will not harass drivers of the vehicles belonging to the nearby area falling within 18 km radius, no fee would be charged after the respective driver presents an ID proof.
