On 21/1/25, 83-year-old Rajendra retired from HMT Pinjore,  resident of Sector-16 Panchkula, had complained that he had been cheated by intimidating him through digital system.

On January 16, at 12 noon, he received a WhatsApp call, in which a person introduced himself as an officer of the Hyderabad-based Police Headquarters and said that a serious case of money transfer has been registered against him and he has to reach Hyderabad in two hours.

When the victim expressed his inability to come, he was told through video call that a person named "Goyal" has fled abroad after committing fraud and the victim's Aadhaar card has been found linked to him. On this pretext, he was digitally "arrested" and threatened to remain in front of the camera till the investigation is completed and not to tell anyone about this, otherwise there would be a danger to life.

In this way, by spreading fear and confusion, the fraudsters kept the victim under mental control for three consecutive days and defrauded a total of Rs 57.90 Lakh from his various bank accounts. When the victim realized that he was cheated, he immediately lodged a complaint at Cyber Crime Police Station Panchkula.
