SEMINAR ON ONE NATION ONE ELECTION HELD

A seminar on the topic "One Nation, One Election" was organized on Friday at the Bar Room, Court Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh. The event saw enthusiastic participation from members of the legal fraternity and distinguished guests from legal, administrative, and political backgrounds.
The seminar featured notable speakers including Mr. Saurabh Joshi, M.C counsilor Mr. G.S. Malhi, former DGP Haryana, Mr. Lekhraj Sharma, former Chairman of the Bar Council and Mr. Sandeep Singh, BJP Spokesperson from Haryana. Each speaker brought forth insightful perspectives on the concept of holding simultaneous elections across the country and its possible implementation in India.
Mr Saurabh Joshi elaborated on the legal and administrative feasibility of "One Nation, One Election," stressing that this move could significantly reduce election-related expenditure and lead to better utilization of national resources. He pointed out that frequent elections disturb governance and delay policy implementation due to repeated imposition of the Model Code of Conduct.
The seminar was a step forward in encouraging informed discourse on one of the most significant policy proposals in recent years.
Former DGP Haryana, Mr. G.S. Malhi, addressed the issue of misuse of government machinery during elections. He shared his experience from law enforcement, explaining how the repeated deployment of police forces and administrative machinery for frequent elections results in strain, inefficiency, and sometimes, partisan misuse. Mr. Malhi emphasized that with one-time elections, monitoring and transparency would become more effective and the scope for manipulation would drastically reduce.
Mr. Lekhraj Sharma, former Chairman of the Bar Council, appreciated the initiative and said such discussions are vital for legal awareness and constitutional debate. He added that the legal community should play an active role in shaping public opinion and guiding policy makers on such impactful reforms.
Mr. Sandeep Singh highlighted how the idea of simultaneous elections could enhance national integration, streamline campaign narratives, and improve voter participation. He stated that a synchronized electoral process would help in maintaining a consistent developmental agenda and reduce political distractions caused by continuous elections in different states.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and an interactive discussion among advocates and guests, showing strong interest and curiosity about the future of electoral reforms in India.
