The Punjab Local Bodies Department has ordered the transfer of 24 executive officers (EOs) of municipal councils and nagar panchayats with immediate effect, continuing a series of reshuffles in the state’s civic administration.
One of the most notable changes is in Kharar, where frequent transfers have become a trend during the tenure of the AAP government. Gurbakshish Singh, who was serving as the executive officer of Kharar Municipal Council since May 15, has now been transferred to Khanna. This is the ninth change of EO in Kharar in just two years, starting from February 2023. Sukhdev Singh, the executive officer of Payal, has been appointed in his place.
The frequent transfers in Kharar have drawn attention as the tenure of each officer has been very short. Singh's predecessor, Ravi Jindal, held the post for less than five months and was removed. The trend has raised questions about adminisrative stability in the fast-growing city, which is facing serious urban management challenges.
