Following the formation of the Jammu Division in Northern Railway, various initiatives are being implemented under the Freight Policy by the Divisional Railway Manager, Mr. Vivek Kumar, and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Mr. Uchit Singhal, aimed at reducing logistics costs and making freight transportation accessible to small businesses. On Thursday, a BCN wagon loaded with 952 paper bundles and paper rolls, weighing a total of 52 tons, departed from Kathua Railway Station of Jammu Division for Azara Railway Station of Rangiya Division in Guwahati, Assam, on the Northeast Frontier Railway, at a freight rate of ₹1.28 lakh. This is a significant step in freight transportation.
The Jammu Division is encouraging the business community to promote rail freight transportation, which will boost freight transportation and increase railway revenue. This will create new employment opportunities for local people.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Mr. Uchit Singhal, stated that under the freight policy, the division's freight handling capacity will be increased, ensuring smooth movement of goods across the country and strengthening the railway infrastructure.
He added that previously, on July 23, 2025, a BCN weighing approximately 46 tons was transported from Kathua Railway Station in Jammu Division to Azara Railway Station in Rangiya Division in Guwahati, Assam. Jammu Division is encouraging all business communities to use the railways so that they can easily and cost-effectively transport their goods to various parts of the country, thereby boosting their businesses.
