Panic spread across the Abohar court complex in Fazilka Distt. on Thursday when unidentified assailants opened fire on a youth Akash Alias Golu Pandit, who had come for a court hearing, killing him on the spot. The deceased, whose body has been sent to the government hospital mortuary for post-mortem,. The deceased was facing several criminal cases registered against him and was recently released on bail.
The victim — Akash alias Golu Pandit, son of Avneesh Kumar, priest at Johri Mandir — had been lodged in jail for several criminal charges. He was released on bail a few days ago. On Thursday, he arrived at the court for a hearing related to an Arms Act case, along with his companions, Kuljinder Singh alias Bhalwan of New Suraj Nagri (Gali No. 2) and Sonu alias Bachi of Dharam Nagri (Gali No. 9), in a Scorpio car.
Sources revealed that moments after the three returned from court and sat in their vehicle, unidentified shooters — who were already lying in wait — fired multiple rounds at Golu Pandit. He sustained serious bullet injuries while the assailants fled the spot immediately. His companions rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Eyewitness Sonu stated that three to four attackers fired about six rounds, three of which hit Golu, resulting in his death.
Upon receiving information, the SSP Fazilka Gurmeet Singh, SP Abohar and other senior officers reached the hospital, which soon turned into a heavily guarded zone.
While interacting to Media persons SSP Gurmeet Singh confirmed that the incident appears to be a gangwar. He said Golu Pandit had multiple criminal cases pending and had come for a court appearance when members of a rival gang attacked him.
He assured that the police will not tolerate gangster activities and attackers will be arrested soon and put behind bars.
