The Nursing Training Institutes Association (NTIA) has knocked the doors of the Hon’ble Supreme Court seeking an extension of nursing admission dates in the state of Punjab up to 31st December, in view of the prevailing hardships faced by aspiring students. 

S. Gurdyal Singh Buttar, President, NTIA & Chairman, Bhai Ghanaiya Group of Institutions, Moga, Punjab stated that a large number of eligible students were unable to take admissions due to the recent flood situation, which caused extensive damage and resulted in severe financial losses for many families. He emphasized that these unforeseen circumstances have directly impacted students’ ability to complete the admission process within the stipulated time. 

Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) & Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh informed that as per the available data, a total of 2,950 seats are lying vacant across various nursing programmes in Punjab. These include 466 seats in ANM, 1,072 in GNM, 280 in B.Sc. Nursing, 956 in Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, and 176 in M.Sc. Nursing. He added that the large number of vacant seats clearly reflects the need for immediate intervention to safeguard the future of students as well as nursing institutions. 

Dr. Kataria further stated that PUCA has been continuously knocking the doors of the courts seeking relief for the extension of admission dates since last 5 years & getting the relief to extend the dates. 

It is pertinent to mention that the State of Madhya Pradesh has already been granted relief by extending the admission dates to 31.12.2025 (Order dated 02.12.2025 in SLP (C) No. 29570. Both NTIA and PUCA have knocked the door of Hon’ble court to consider the genuine difficulties of students and institutions and allow an extension of the nursing admission deadline up to 31st December.
