As per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by Amritpal Singh Tinna, Secretary, Abohar Bar Association and 18 others, police have stepped up security in the judicial complex here.
SSP Gurmeet Singh visited the complex and had discussions with SP Ashwant Singh and DSP Sukhvinder Singh Brar.
He said that three CCTV cameras have been installed and a metal detector will also be installed besides deploying police personnel.
Surinderpal Singh Tinna, former Additional Advocate General, who represented the petitioners in the HC, during a visit recently had said that security arrangements must be made in the court complex to ensure a fear-free environment.
The PIL said that on December 11, when Akash alias Golu Pandit, son of a temple priest, was about to get into his car in the parking slot after appearing in the court, attackers who were already lying in wait opened fire and killed him. The accused managed to escape after committing the crime. This incident, which took place in broad daylight in the complex, instilled fear among lawyers and the general public, and also raised questions about the security arrangements.
The police had apprehended the main accused in the murder, Gaggi Lahoria who reportedly claimed responsibility on the social media for the incident, his four accomplices, were also arrested
