The Sriganganagar Child Helpline received information this morning that a child marriage was being conducted by members of the Muslim community near Udaram Chowk.

Following orders from District Collector Dr. Manju and instructions from Assistant Director of the Child Empowerment Department, Renu Khairwa, Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma, Ramnagar Revenue Patwari Kanwaljit Singh, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit in-charge Sheeshram, Head Constable Devendra Bakshi, female constable Krishna, and cops from Purani Abadi Police Station reached the marriage venue.

Preparations for the girl's marriage were underway. When the team asked for proof of the girl having attained the marriageable age of 18 years, her family presented her 10th-grade mark sheet, which showed her date of birth as April 28, 2008, meaning she had not yet reached the marriageable age of 18.

The administration has bound the family and relatives to not conduct the marriage until the girl attains the marriageable age of 18 years and has prepared a report of the incident, obtaining signatures from the family and relatives. To prevent the family from changing the location or time and conducting the marriage elsewhere, the AHTU has assigned an Anganwadi worker and a beat constable to monitor the situation.
