Veteran Punjabi writer Surjit Kaur Bains (86) passed away at her residence in Mohali early today after a brief illness. Her last rites will be held at the Balongi crematorium in Mohali on January 8 at 12:30 pm.
Surjit Kaur Bains was a respected multi-genre writer who made a significant contribution to Punjabi literature through poetry, short stories, and prose. She authored around ten books, reflecting a long and dedicated literary career.
Her notable works include Ek Raat Jagdi Ae (1969), Reejhaan (2006), Sunaina (2008), Reshmi Kudi (2014), Sun Surjit (2018) and Main Te Mere (2023). Her writings focused on human emotions, life experiences, and social realities, particularly highlighting women’s inner struggles.
Known for her positive outlook, Surjit Kaur Bains faced life’s challenges with resilience and continued to express herself creatively through her writing.
