CBI ARRESTS PROCLAIMED OFFENDER IN TRIPURA CHIT FUND SCAM CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Sunday, has arrested Tapan Pramanik, who was declared Proclaimed Offender by the Ld. Court of Special Judge, Gomati District, Udaipur, Tripura in Chit Fund Case. He was absconding since 2012.

The CBI registered the instant case on 08.10.2013, against accused Tapan Pramanik, Director, M/s M.P.S Agro-Animal Projects Ltd. and others, in pursuance of the notifications from Tripura Govt. and Govt. of India. It was alleged that the accused persons, through the agents, fraudulently and dishonestly collected huge amounts to the tune of Rs. 3 to 4 Crore from the public on the pretext of investment of the collected money and misappropriated the said collected funds/amounts.

After completion of investigation, CBI filed Charge-sheet on 13.10.2015 and Supplementary Charge-sheet was filed on 31.05.2019 against accused Tapan Pramanik and others.

The accused Tapan Pramanik did not join the investigation and charge-sheet/suppl. charge-sheet was filed against him as absconder. Warrant of arrest was issued against him by the Ld. Court but he could not be traced/apprehended. The Ld. Court declared the accused Tapan Pramanik as Proclaimed Offender (PO) on 16.01.2023. Further, persistent and sustained efforts were made to trace the accused during the course of Trial, however, he remained untraceable.

Subsequently, based on inputs collected during field verification, physical surveillance and thorough CDR analysis, Proclaimed Offender Tapan Pramanik was arrested by CBI today from Nadia District, West Bengal.

The accused will be produced before the jurisdictional Court at Nadia District, West Bengal for transit warrant for his further production before Ld. Spl. Court at Agartala, Tripura.
