CBI COURT SENTENCES FORMER CLERK, ANDHRA BANK, PRIVATE PERSON TO 5 YEARS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF 1,71,42,000 IN BANK FRAUD

The CBI Court, Visakhapatnam, on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Vempadapu Santhoshi Ramu, the then Clerk-cum-Cashier, Andhra Bank, Cheepurupalli, Vizianagaram District (dismissed from service) and a private person, namely, Mahanthi Ramana, Nadipaina Peta to Imprisonment for Five Years with total Fine of Rs. 1,71,42,000 in a bank fraud case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 13.06.2018 against the accused. It was alleged that the accused Vempadapu Santhoshi Ramu, the then Clerk-cum-Cashier entered into a criminal conspiracy with Mahanthi Ramana and thereby committed criminal breach of trust and misappropriated an amount of Rs. 1,71,41,162 entrusted to him, which was to be deposited into the account of Cheepurupalli Rural Electric Co-operative Society Ltd., an organization entrusted with the job of collecting power consumption charges from remote consumers in Vizianagaram District.

After completion of Investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on 10.01.2019 against the accused Vempadapu Santhoshi Ramu, the then Clerk-cum-Cashier and Mahanthi Ramana.

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused accordingly.
