FAMILY MEMBERS DEMAND SAFETY OF THEIR LIFE FROM EX-MLA

The family members of Gurlal Singh, who had been injured during a clash between two rival groups, hold a press conference at Press Club Ferozepur.

While addressing the media persons, Gurmit Singh, one of the relatives of the injured Gurlal Singh alleged that the entire incident took place on the behest of former Zira MLA and DCC President Kulbir Singh.

“The entire matter belongs to 12 acre 8 marla land at village Bagghi Patni in Zira, which was bought by our forefathers Bakshish Singh and Balbir Singh. Mohinderjit Singh, who is the relative of Kulbir Zira, got prepared forged documents of the land to claim his right on this land. In 1992, the high court had given the verdict in our favour and from till then we had been cultivating the land”, said Gurmit Singh while giving details.

“On June 6, Kulbir’s uncle Mohinderjit, his cousin Mehakdeep, Rashpal Singh Gill, and other accused Baba Karnail Singh, Buta Singh, Balwinder Singh, Kulbir Singh alias Timmi and one unidentified person, reached his fields at Baghhi Patni village. Gurnam had further alleged that the accused were carrying firearms, and they forcibly started ploughing their land despite of stay order by the High Court in their favour. When we tried to stop the accused, they opened fire during which Gurlal Singh was injured”, said Gurmit.

The police had booked Ex-MLA Kulbir along with his uncle Mohinderjit, his cousin Mehakdeep, Rashpal Singh Gill (President Municipal Council Zira) and other accused Baba Karnail Singh, Buta Singh, Balwinder Singh, Ex- Market Committee Chairman Kulbir Singh alias Timmi and one unidentified person under sections 307, 447, 427, 107, 148, 149 of IPC besides 25,27 of Arms Act at Zira police station (FIR No. 65 Dated 06.06.24) following the complaint lodged by Gurnam Singh, one of the elder of the family

Notably, the police had booked Ex-MLA Kulbir along with his uncle Mohinderjit, his cousin Mehakdeep, Rashpal Singh Gill (President Municipal Council Zira) and other accused Baba Karnail Singh, Buta Singh, Balwinder Singh, Ex- Market Committee Chairman Kulbir Singh alias Timmi and one unidentified person under sections 307, 447, 427, 107, 148, 149 of IPC besides 25,27 of Arms Act at Zira police station (FIR No. 65 Dated 06.06.24) following the complaint lodged by Gurnam Singh, one of the elder of the family.

“Though Kulbir was not there, he had been giving instructions to his cousin Mehakdeep all the time. We are scared of Kulbir as he might harm our family by using his links with the top brass and this is why we are here for the press conference”, said Gurmit.

It is pertinent to mention here that the district and session court had dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Kulbir yesterday.
