The 5-day National Media Conference organised by Brahma Kumaris Media Wing concluded at Gyan Sarovar in Mt Abu with a call to the Media to play a role as a Harbinger of Global Peace and Harmony.

Coordinator BK Shantanu Bhai informed that an Action Plan was formulated which said that Media's responsibility is to be a true mirror to the world, therefore, Media to "resolve issues and represent the truth", a peaceful world is attainable through truthful journalism. Understanding the media's powerful potential to bridge the divides and become harbingers of peace. Questions framed in the reporting are to be aimed at resolving issues, rather than simply provoking problems.

Media should refrain from front-page crime reporting, to foster positivity and regain public trust. Conduct an internal audit to ensure truthful reporting over sensationalism. A need for genuine self-evaluation is imperative, "Ask oneself, will my words or story hurt or uplift". To control fake news in social media: each one has to exercise self-discipline- Don’t type bad, don’t like bad, don’t share bad.

The plan asserted that media needs to internalise and embody peace through the acronym PEACE: Positivity, Pure Feelings; Exercise (embodying one's true self as a soul); Appreciation; Cool and Calm; Easiness and Enlightenment for smooth functioning. Just like the Bar Council and Medical Council in India, there is a need for "Media Council of India" to regulate media content and for establishing and maintaining standards of media education. Media must appreciate that we don’t run the world, we serve the world. We need to be responsible and accountable to the world for maintaining peace and harmony. EOM
