Farmers organised a “Subuddhi Yagya” at Maharaja Ganga Singh Memorial near Gang Canal’s Shivpur headworks. Those present included Sangharsh Samiti spokesman Subhash Sehgal, Amar Singh Bishnoi, Amtender Singh Kranti, Sukhbir Fauji, Manohar Lal Kadwasra, Rakesh Saharan, Mohan Singh Mohanpura, Vinod Jakhar, Kulchander Rahad, Sillu Chahar, Balkar Singh Hundal, Babbu Dhillon and Harry Singh Kahlon.

The participants prayed to God to bless the Punjab and Rajasthan governments with wisdom to rise about politics, understand the miseries of lakhs of farmers who were crying for water for survival of crops and drinking purposes.

Amar Singh Bishnoi said that the government in Punjab had not paid a heed in the past more than three years to the demand to clean the old Bikaner Canal and Eastern Canal. Experts had asserted that cleaning of canals in a corruption-free and transparent manner can solve the problems that farmers in Fazilka and Sriganganagar have been facing since a long time.

Farmers had sent video footage to highlight that water from Harike Barrage and Ferozepur headworks was allowed to flow to Pakistan citing alarming levels at the headworks but water was not used for the Eastern Canal, Gang Canal and Ferozepur Feeder Canal.

Subhash Sehgal said that Punjab and Rajasthan governments should take a serious view of their responsibilities towards farmers and resolved the issues on a priority.
