The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered a fresh FIR against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. The FIR also names six other individuals and three companies — Associated Journals Limited (AJL), Dotex Merchandise, and Young Indian. All three companies are accused of allegedly acquiring AJL through fraudulent means.

According to the complaint, AJL owned properties valued at nearly ₹2,000 crore in 2010. Kolkata-based Dotex Merchandise reportedly paid ₹1 crore to Young Indian, after which Young Indian paid ₹50 lakh to the Congress Party to take control of AJL. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi together hold 76% shareholding in Young Indian.

The FIR, filed on October 3, is based on a complaint from the Enforcement Directorate’s Headquarters Investigation Unit (HIU). The ED shared its investigation report covering the period from 2008 to 2024, on the basis of which the action was initiated. The information came to light on Saturday.

Sources said Delhi Police may soon summon AJL shareholders to determine whether their consent was obtained before the transfer of ownership. The Congress has termed the allegations “political vendetta” and claimed it has no official information about the FIR.
