An explosion outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector-37, Chandigarh, on Wednesday evening around 5 PM caused panic in the area. According to initial reports, the blast occurred in a parked scooter (Activa), damaging several nearby vehicles and leaving shrapnel marks on the office walls.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion was sudden, leading to chaos among people present nearby. BJP leader Vineet Joshi stated that party workers were inside the office at the time. After hearing the loud blast, they rushed to spot and found broken car windows and scattered debris.
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur reached the scene along with a heavy police force. She confirmed that a suspicious Activa was found at the spot and appears to be the source of the explosion. Around 70–80 shrapnel-like marks were observed on the office wall, indicating possible use of explosive material.
Bomb Disposal Squad and forensic teams were immediately deployed. The entire area has been sealed and is being thoroughly searched CCTV footage from nearby cameras has been seized for analysis
Investigators are trying to identify who parked the scooter and fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far. However, security has been tightened across Chandigarh and nearby areas, especially around key government and political locations.
Following the incident, security agencies across the region have been put on alert. Police stated that all angles—technical and human intelligence—are being examined, and more details will be revealed after the investigation progresses.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
