Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported to have arrested Head Constablr Sunil Yadav—the Beat In-charge of the Sector-26 Police Station area—red-handed while he was accepting a bribe from vendor of Grain Market in Sector 26 Chandigarh.
This action was executed as part of a trap laid by the CBI. The accused Havaldar was apprehended near the washroom at the Sector-26 Vegetable Market while he was allegedly accepting money from vendor illegally..
The CBI had previously received complaints alleging that police personnel in the area were regularly extorting money from illegal vendors. Following a preliminary inquiry into these complaints, the CBI team strategically laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed.
Another police official was present at the scene during the operation. Although his exact role remains unclear, the CBI has brought him under the scope of their inquiry and is currently questioning him. It is suspected that this case may not be limited to a single individual but could potentially be linked to an organized extortion ring.
The CBI has taken the accused Havildar into custody and has commenced his interrogation. The process of registering a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act is currently underway. Additionally, investigators are examining how long he has been involved in such illegal extortion activities and identifying other individuals who may be implicated in the scheme.
