CBI COURT SENTENCES PRIVATE PERSON TO TWO YEARS’ WITH FINE IN DA CASE

The CBI Court on Mondat, has convicted and sentenced the accused private person, namely, Jasodaben Rameshbhai Vadadia, W/o the accused Rameshbhai Fulchand Vadadia, the then Income Tax Officer, Gandhinagar, to Rigorous Imprisonment for Two Years with a fine of Rs. 20,000 in a Disproportionate Assets case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 30.06.2007 against the accused Rameshbhai Fulchand Vadadia, the then Income Tax Officer, O/o the Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Gandhinagar, Range, Udhyog Bhavan, Gandhinagar. It was alleged that the accused had amassed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income to the tune of Rs. 29,49,977 which was 247% of their known sources of income during the period 01.01.2002 to 30.04.2007.

 fter the completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on 24.12.2008 against the accused Ramesh Fulchand Vadadia and his wife Jashodaben Rameshbhai Vadadia (Pvt. Person) for amassing assets to the tune of Rs. 25,46,398 disproportionate to their known sources of income, which were 133.98% to their known source of income. The accused, Ramesh Fulchand Vadadia, the then Income Tax Officer, expired during the trial, and the case against him was abated by the Court. 

The Ld. Court found merit in the charges and held the accused Jasodaben Rameshbhai Vadadia, guilty of abetting her husband for acquiring disproportionate assets to the to their known sources of income and accordingly convicted her for the abetment of the offence in the aforesaid Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.
