Senior Congress leader and former Health Minister of Punjab, Balbir Singh Sidhu, has announced full support to the farmers who are protesting against GMADA for their rightful demands. He stated that he will join the protest on April 6 at 10 AM along with Congress workers.

Sidhu said that the Aam Aadmi Party govt led by Bhagwant Mann is doing injustice to farmers through GMADA. He alleged that the government is acquiring land from farmers without providing adequate compensation, while during plot allotments, preference is being given to commercial entities over farmers.

He further stated that even those farmers who receive corner plots or plots facing parks through the draw are being charged additional amounts like general allottees, which is completely unjustified.

Sidhu also informed that the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, will also address the farmers on this occasion.

Calling GMADA’s policies anti-people, he said that the authority, which was originally created to provide affordable housing to people, is now functioning like a private company focused on profit-making. He questioned whether any survey was conducted before expanding Aerotropolis and launching new residential projects in New Chandigarh and Mohali to assess the actual housing demand in the region.

Sidhu added that through the land pooling policy, the govt is turning farmers’ land into an easy means of earning billions, without benefiting the common people.

He said that the Congress stands firmly with the agitating farmers and will extend all possible support. He added that the issue will also be raised in the upcoming Assembly session, demanding that the land pooling policy be made farmer-friendly. On this occasion, former Chairman of the Market Committee Kharar and senior Congress leader Harkesh Chand Sharma Machhli Kalan was present.
