Child Helpline Sriganganagar received information that child marriage of three children was being done on Friday by people of Odh community in village 9 FDM (Faridsar).
On the orders of District Collector Dr. Manju and instructions of Assistant Director Child Empowerment Department Renu Khairwa, Child Welfare Committee Chairman Joginder Kaushik, member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma reached the wedding venue along with Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma, Revenue Patwari Vikas Deep and police.
The team found that the wedding procession of two boys was ready to go to Suratgarh and people were dancing to the tune of a DJ, wedding procession of a girl was about to be welcomed.
When the team asked for proof that the boys and girls had completed the marriageable age of 18 years and 21 years, their family members said that they did not have any documents related to the age of these children. The team obtained the date of birth certificate from the school of the girl and her two brothers who were studying in the Government Higher Secondary School, Faridsar, in which the date of birth of the girl was 18/09/2005 and the date of birth of both the boys was 05/07/2008 and 13/01/2007. None of the brides and grooms was of marriageable age.
The families were prohibited from marrying them, a Farad was prepared and the signatures of the families were obtained. The CWC has deputed Anganwadi worker and beat policeman to monitor the spot, and immediately inform of violation.
