Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer, president of the Youth Akali Dal, has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government over the worsening drug situation in Punjab.
Highlighting a heartbreaking case, he referred to the Viral Video where Manjeet Kaur of Sultanpur Lodhi, who allegedly lost four sons to drug addiction, while her fifth son remains bedridden and unable to eat or speak. He claimed that drugs like “chitta” are being sold openly, even near police stations, and are being delivered door-to-door by masked individuals.
Jhinjer alleged that despite promises made by Bhagwant Mann in 2022 to make Punjab drug-free within weeks, the situation has deteriorated significantly. He stated that even after four years, families continue to suffer, villages are being devastated, and many women are forced to leave their homes.
He further alleged that drugs are easily available within minutes in many areas, with open sale near police stations, and accused the police of taking only symbolic action while major peddlers go free. He also claimed the existence of a nexus involving certain political leaders, police officials, and drug networks.
Calling the situation more than just administrative failure, Jhinjer termed it “complicity” and urged immediate and strict action to curb the drug menace in the state.
