STATE INSPECTION OF CHILD CARE INSTITUTIONS AT SECTOR-25 CONDUCTED; FOCUS ON WELFARE, EDUCATION & SKILL DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration today conducted a State Inspection of the Observation Home, Special Home and Place of Safety for Boys, Sector-25, which accommodates Children in Conflict with Law.

The inspection was carried out under the chairpersonship of Dr. Palika Arora, Director, Women & Child Development. The inspection team comprised Mr. Rajneesh Kumar, Member, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights; Dr. Satinder Kaur Sachdeva, Member, Juvenile Justice Board; Ms. Bisman Ahuja, Program Manager, State Adoption Resource Agency; Dr. Vineeta Arora, Member, Child Welfare Committee; and Dr. Devina Singh, Pediatrician, Department of Health Services, Chandigarh.

The Committee carried out a comprehensive review of records maintained at the institution, including case files of children and counselling registers. During the inspection, it was observed that the children are being provided with nutritious meals, age-appropriate recreational activities and are actively engaged in educational classes. All children were found to be enrolled in formal and informal education systems.

The institution was also found to be ensuring the physical and mental well-being of children through regular visits by psychologists and doctors from the Department of Health Services.

During the visit, the Director highlighted the proposal to introduce ITI courses in addition to the existing vocational training programmes such as electrical work, computer education and mobile repairing. This initiative aims to equip children with market-relevant skills and enhance their future employability.
