200 FARMER WOMEN ALSO PARTICIPATE IN THE KISAN MELA

More than 200 farmer women also participated in the Kisan Mela organised by the Agriculture Department at Fazilka where 10 self-help groups of farmer women put up exhibitions of their home-made products.

Chief guest, Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna, said that in the present times, it is very important to adopt ancillary businesses along with traditional crops to make agriculture profitable. He appealed to the farmers to pay attention to activities like goat farming, pig farming, fish farming, planting fruit trees and plantation of trees, which can increase their income.

MLA Jalalabad Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, motivated farmers to take full advantage of the various welfare schemes being run by the government. He said that through Kisan Melas, farmers get detailed information about scientific methods of agriculture, crop conservation, necessary fertilizers, selection of seeds and protection from pests.

The Chief Agriculture Officer, Harpreet Pal Kaur, advised the farmers to adopt crop diversification and direct sowing of paddy and informed the farmers about the various schemes being run by the Agriculture Department. Experts from the Department enlightened farmers about various schemes like subsidy schemes, modern farming techniques and new crops. They also answered the questions of the farmers and solved their problems. SDM Kanwarjit Singh was also present.
